The Human Side of this Business

In this age of incredible technology advancement, more and more network marketing companies and their distributors are using online promotion, communication, and delivery to build networks. Technology offers many advantages to the serious player. For one, it reduces the need for large inventories. It virtually eliminates hardcopy record keeping and paper trails. It breaks down geographical barriers, allowing for a truly global opportunity, and it expedites nearly every process and procedure involved in conducting business. Because of the Internet and related technologies, there has been a major paradigm shift in how business gets done in the last fifteen years. That’s good, and it’s bad.
Progress in any form is good; however, it often comes at a price. In business, the trade off has been the significant decrease in the amount of, and attention to personal contact. Nowhere is this more apparent than in our own industry. We need to be careful. Network marketing is and always has been a people business. Technology should never replace relationships. Despite all the advances, we must not lose sight of the human aspect of MLM. For technology to be effective in this industry, people need to hear other people tell them about the products, services, or business opportunity. Once the human contact is made and a relationship built, then the prospective business partner or customer can be directed to the technical side for further information and future contact. If you skip the human side of the business or quickly gloss over it, all the technology in the world cannot fill the hole that will be left behind.
